Safety

Switzerland is a safe country compared to other European countries but it has a few incidents of muggings. Such incidents take place in public places, mostly in trains, and around the city center.

Safety guidelines you should remember while traveling include;

1.  You may wish to exercise watchfulness on trains, especially on overnight trains. Even locked sleeping compartments can be entered by thieves, who steal from passengers while they sleep.
2. Always review your security practices and be alert to your surroundings.
3. To avoid unwanted attention, try to blend in as much as possible. Learn to respect the local customs; this will help you to avoid unnecessary attention.
4. If you are using a car, learn local driving signals and wear a seatbelt. Study route maps before you hit the road, and if you plan on spending a lot of time driving, consider bringing spare parts.
5. Carry your backpack in front of you where you can see it. Never let your passport and your bags out of your sight.
